The Kulturpalast Dresden by the architect Wolfgang Hänsch was opened in 1969 and has the largest multipurpose hall in the city of Dresden, which is used for concerts, dance and entertainment events as well as conferences and congresses. The block-shaped building, which looks like a plain solitaire in the style of Bauhaus Modernism and has a floor area of around 100 by 70 meters, closes the Altmarkt on the north side as a partial development on Wilsdruffer Straße. Located to the east of the Schloßstraße and southwest of the nearby Neumarkt, it is located right in the center of the historic old town, which was destroyed on February 13, 1945.
