Route 35 Drive-In, Hazlet, NJ

Loew's Route 35 Drive-In was a drive-in theater in Hazlet, New Jersey. It opened in 1956 and closed on September 4, 1991. Originally known as an Open Air Theatre, the drive-in attracted customers who traveled “down the shore” to the Keansburg Amusement Pier which was nearby. A concession stand stood in the middle of the field providing traditional boardwalk food such as hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza in addition to the movie fare of popcorn and candies. The bathrooms and projection room were located here as well. Built on a field where watermelons once grew, it had one giant screen and the capacity for 1200 cars.
