On February 29, 2020, Brandon Flowers received a text message from an unknown number: "Watching [the Killers 2019 set from] Glastonbury. You guys have become one hellacious live band my brother! Love the gold suit! We gotta do "Dustland" one day. Bruce." Flowers, blown away, confirmed that the message in fact came from Bruce Springsteen… then the COVID lockdown began. But a plan was agreed on to record a new version of the song together; Bruce apparently recorded his part at some point in late 2020. The new version was released as a single on June 16, 2021. Separately, Springsteen almost certainly recorded his vocal part for the Bleachers song "chinatown" some time in 2020, but it's not known when or where. The album was recorded primarily at Electric Lady Studios in New York City; Rob Lebret is credited with additional engineering on the track, but as he also contributes to another, Springsteen-less song on the album this does not guarantee a Stone Hill Studio session was used. However, we have listed the track here pending further information. The song was released as a single on November 16, 2020, and then on the album Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night on July 30, 2021.
